Blood Runs Cold is a musical that I composed in 2022 alongside writers Julia Stafford and Tess Lyons. After the show had it's original run, we recorded our own cast album, which you can download here, alongside a few extra songs that never made it to the stage.

Nowhere Near You |
|
| This song would've been sung by Nora in act one. The title serves a double meaning, with Nora expressing her grief over Iris, and expressing her distance from the people around her. Eventually we decided that Nora shouldn't sing at all until her character arc in the second act, to emphasize her lack of direction. You can still hear motifs and lyrics from this song in “From Beyond” and “Comfort Zone” | ||

Take the Risk |

| This was a song that I wrote fairly early in production, taking the place of “Comfort Zone” and “Someone Has to Try.” We felt that this was a lot of character development for a single song, so we decided to split this into two songs to really emphasize Nora's growth. | ||

The Start of Something Interesting |
|
| This song would've played when the Mysterious Figure leaves the diary at Nora's home. This was a really fun song with a lot of foreshadowing, but we eventually decided that this song gave up too much too early, so we scrapped it. The Mysterious Figure was actually a much bigger character in earlier versions of the show, but we slowly shifted towards something a little more eldritch in the end. | ||

Killer Dilemma |

| Melanie would have sung this in act two, right before “Are You Free Tonight?” and it would've shown how she played along with the plot much more than Nora - mentally struggling with the choice between ending another person's life and losing Iris again. We eventually ended up cutting this song for time, but I incorporated a bit of it into “From Beyond / All I Ask of You” and “Are You Free Tonight”. Another iteration of this song had the trio of coworkers (Adrian, Taylor, and Sam) singing this at Melanie as she struggles with the decision. | ||
